MetroPCS has added a new cheap Android smartphone to its roster today. Its the alcatel Tru, which appears to be a rebadged version of the alcatel Pop 3 (5) that was first released in late 2015.
This isnt anywhere near the ZTE Zmax Pro (that MetroPCS also outed recently) in terms of specs. Then again, its much cheaper too. After a mail-in rebate, the alcatel Tru is yours for just $29. And obviously since this is a prepaid carrier were talking about, you dont have to sign any long-term service agreements to net the device at that low price.
So what do you get for that measly amount of cash? Well, the Tru has a 5-inch 854x480 touchscreen, a 5 MP rear camera, a 2 MP front-facing unit, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 SoC (with a 1.1 GHz quad-core Cortex-A7 CPU and Adreno 304 GPU), 1GB of RAM, 8GB of expandable storage, 4G LTE support, and a 2,000 mAh battery. It runs Android 5.0 Lollipop.
So clearly this is no spec champ, far from it in fact. But its price is meant to be its unique selling point, after all.
